WHO ARE YOU? WHAT’S YOUR STORY, HOW & WHY DID YOU GET INTO THE BUSINESS?

We grew too many chillies for our own use in 2012 so made some products, then took them market, made a good amount, and kept it going… 3 years later gave up the full-time job at Aston Martin Lagonda.

WHAT MAKES THE BUSINESS A COOL PLACE TO BE

It’s a relaxed workplace, music is on and the job gets done, we get stuck in whilst having a bit of fun at the same time.

IF YOU WEREN’T RUNNING THE BUSINESS, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING 

Not an easy question to answer, having studied art and design, done engineering at Manchester airport, truck driving and been a software developer at Aston Martin Lagonda it’s hard to say… I never switch off and like learning things. Many fingers in many pies!

WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON

Charcuterie, underway but currently being scaled. We might be the only charcuterie producer in Warwickshire at the moment!

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT

Understanding flavour, we marry flavour profiles and textures to create something that is new and exciting, sometimes we’ll start with a staple for instance mango chutney and then we’ll add our stamp to it by pairing a fruity chilli and spices that bring out something unique. Other times we’ll bring out a product that is completely new like our ‘India Joywala’ that has lots of Great Taste Awards and is truly unique in its own right.

BEST MOMENT

Winning two Foodie Awards in 2021 was fantastic following on from months of uncertainty, 2021 hasn’t finished and bigger things are on the horizon. Always looking forwards and not backwards, it’s impossible to change the past but I have the ability to pave a good road ahead. More things to come that we can’t announce just yet!

A VALUABLE LESSON 

If you say your product is all natural, then make sure it’s all natural. When we first started, we used bottled lemon juice, it was a couple of months in that we realised it has preservatives in there and sulphites. Having switched to natural fresh lemons juiced by hand we have made that change and it was so easy, sometimes you just need to think twice.

Reclus Red Chilli Jam, mild, sweet, smoky, and usable on or with just about anything. Another one of our multi award winning products.

WHAT OR WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION AND WHY?

Not a what nor a who, more of a where. I like to discover new places and go native. Get off the beaten track and enjoy other cultures and foods they eat. The day after proposing to my wife in Thailand I took myself off on a Thai cookery course! I like to be inspired by the people that are just like me, not a celebrity but someone that strives for the best at what they do for the passion of it, not the money.

THINGS YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT

My tastebuds! I had to undergo a tonsillectomy in 2015 I temporarily lost my sense of taste, thankfully after a couple of months it was back to normal but was quite concerning as I had been running a food business for a couple of years at that point.

FAVOURITE MEAL OR GO TO SNACK

Not a snacker, but do like a good savoury meal which is the opposite of what I was like growing up… These days I have to say my complete favourite would be a Green Thai Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice.
