Meet Our Suppliers - Ross & Ross Gifts
WHO ARE YOU? WHAT’S YOUR STORY, HOW & WHY DID YOU GET INTO THE BUSINESS?
I’m Ross Bearman, founder & Director of Ross & Ross Gifts. I have been working with food for over 20 years and I clearly still love it! I started my food journey from an early age and developed my love of food, drink, and cooking. From working for Malmaison, Peach Pub company and then Paxton & Whitfield, I have gained an incredible insight into the food & drink industry. This sparked my dream of starting my own business. In 2011, I co-founded Ross & Ross Food, where we produced high end food products & gifts alongside offering catering services. We started out producing Pate, Terrines and Rillettes and as we grew so did our product range. In 2019, I decided to focus on producing handmade British food gifts & products so moved from Ross & Ross Food and founded Ross & Ross Gifts. It’s now 2021, and we have continued to flourish and hope to continue our success into the future.
WHAT MAKES THE BUSINESS A COOL PLACE TO BE
The best thing about this business is that myself and the team have a common passion for food and most of all, British food. We are all massive ‘foodies’ and absolutely love that we work with food everyday as part of our job. Whenever the team have a chat or meeting, it is guaranteed that what someone is having for dinner is talked about!
IF YOU WEREN’T RUNNING THE BUSINESS WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING
If I were not running a business, I would either be managing a restaurant or bar as I love working with people, proving a great service and would stick with my ‘foodie’ roots.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON
Our main goal over the next few years is to build our brand image nationally and internationally by focusing on product development and our marketing strategies.
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT
I believe the businesses love for British food and our product creativity is what makes us unique. Our product range inspiration derived from food that British consumers really love. We began with the love of bacon by creating our Homemade Curing Kits for bacon & salmon. We developed our Man Box range, which was inspired by consumers telling us they wanted to see a foodie gift hamper aimed at men. We then launched our British BBQ Range, which includes a range of seasonings dedicated to the meat that British consumers typically love. One of our favourite ranges of all, is our British Roast Range. We all know British consumers typically love a roast dinner. Our roast range includes a British Roast Dinner Box which is designed to feed into the roast trend and is a great gift to give to someone who absolutely loves a roast.
Our businesses best moment I would say is winning our first Gift of the Year Award. This was an incredible moment and really opened our eyes to the business and products we had created. It was great to share this win, with the team.
A VALUABLE LESSON
A good reputation is more valuable than money – this is something I have learnt through my many years of business. At first you may think that making money is vital to owning a successful business but building a good reputation with your customers and other businesses is the main path to success.
I would recommend people build their own business and invest in their aspirations. Starting my own business was the best decision I have made. It is a huge risk, but it pays off. If you can find something you are passionate about and have the ability to create something out of it, it’s the best feeling in the world.
